Was supposed to go museum hopping just now...Wanted to go to 4 different museums..And ended up just going to one of the museum on the list.....
We went to the "reflections at Bukit Chandu" museum..Basically it's a war museum showing what happened over at Bukit Chandu during the WWII.......It was interesting to know what the people living at that time felt..And the soldiers...How brave each and everyone of them were...
We watched the show and I had goosebumps all over my body when I heard the way they defended this country.....
No one....And I mean no one would be like them now.....It's no more a question of nationality..It's all about loyalty....How loyal we are....And it's about the inner courage...I doubt I,like many others, would have the courage to fight like the heroes of WWII......And that takes guts..To meet your enemy with no ammunition and even lesser men....But still they carried on...Still they fought.....
And the Malay Regiment at that time was the unsung hero.....They talk about the pioneers..They talk of Sun Yat Seng....They talk of Tan Tock Seng....But they never talk about Leftenan Adnan and Leftenan Ismail Babu....Just some of the names of The Malay Regiment who defended the place with their life at stake....
I read through the guest book....And one entry opened my eyes.....It stated about why the Malay Regiment was never taught in school....Are they not as important as all others who have lost their lives in the war????We know of the British personnels who died...Who suffered as pows...But what about the personnels of the Malay Regiment..Of whom many were not found.....And their families not even able to visit a grave.....
I guess they are not important to part of history...Not important enough to be placed inside the history books..To be taught to our children...But the funny thing is that their story might inspire a little courage in all of us......
A little facts that I gathered from my visit today:
1) The Malay Regiment refused to obey the Japanese when they were asked to take off their uniforms, ranks and crest because of their pride and was executed shortly after for their disobedience....
2)Leftenan Adnan was stabbed a couple of times and yet he refused to give up his life...And he was strung up on a rubber tree....And no one was allowed to take him down......
3)They were outnumbered 1 Malay Regiment soldier to 10 or 12 Japanese soldier......Who do you think will survive.....
I admire their courage and wished I had the courage too.....But alas...Somewhere along the line... We lost that courage that our ancestors had.....What a pity..........
